Will lunch be provided in the summer?

Lunch is on your own. Many students bring their lunch or visit the Inner Cirlce located in Student Center East.

Will we receive a bus pass?

Students will receive a transportation stipend of $100.

When is the transportation stipend sent?

Students will receive the transportation stipend in the second week of the summer component.

Is there on-campus housing provided for the summer component?

Yes. Please vist the Summer College for more information.

Are recreation facilities available to students during the summer (ex. Gym)?

Those services are available to students who are registered for the summer semester, taking credit hours. Unfortunately, ASCEND students are not taking credit hours and do not have access to those facilities until they begin classes in the fall.

What if I have orientation during the summer program?

Please let us know what dates you will need to attend orientation and we will excuse you for those days. Orientation is very important and we do not want you to miss that event. Also we encourage you to schedule orientation (312.996.3271) as soon as possible.

What if I am absent during the program?

Only two excused absences are allowed. You will need to let us know by e-mailing Mary or calling the office at 312.413.8497.

When will I get the stipend?

The stipend is given to the students when they have finished the summer component

Will the ASCEND seminar be offered in the Spring semester?

The seminar will only be offered in the Fall semester. You will need to consider this when creating your schedule for the Fall semester.

Will the course be offered at another class time?

We will notify you of the class time and day as soon as possible so that you can make proper arrangements in your class schedule.

Will there be a lot of homework involved with the course in the fall semester?

All class assignments will be developed to assist you in your first year of college. There are bi-weekly journal assignments.

What if I decide not to attend UIC?
