ASCEND students receive preference to register in science, engineering, mathematics and English courses that are commonly taken by first-year students.
The ASCEND Scholars, assigned to their own academic advisor, meet three times a semester with the advisor to discuss course and career information. In addition, graduate students are available to tutor each Scholar in mathematics if the need arises throughout the academic year.
The ASCEND Scholars participate in a one-credit hour course seminar. The seminar activities compliment student major interests and professional development in their majors.
Each fall and spring the ASCEND program hosts a research fair designed to showcase opportunities for undergraduate research in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics at UIC.
