Award of Merit

The Award of Merit is conferred by the African Scientific Research Institute to honor outstanding researchers whose interests include America-Prehistoric and Bio-historical archaeology, Africans in Early American Studies, Museology and Private /Public African History Preservation. The awards recognize contributions to the understanding of natural history collections, management, preservation, and osteological analysis of cranial/skeletal data collection for the identification of facial reconstruction and DNA scientific indexing.

The award also gives recognition by encouraging research beyond the essential requirements for preserving, storing, studying, and displaying natural history collections contemporaneous to today’s standard. This award honors individuals who displayed synergy of "academic excellence" and service activities within the context of rural, urban, and policy relevant to research, education and service.

We recognize the mission and works of individuals, groups or organizations working for the restoration and creation of self-pride among people of African descendant. The restoration and creation of self-pride shall be accomplished by uplifting several generations of Africans in the Americas (enslaved, circa 1628 to 1888) to a level of national and international prominence as one speaks for the dead through the Quest for DNA, “Tracking the Question of Identification”.
