EVENTS:
- DR. MARK NAGLER AT UIC
Dr. Mark Nagler was born with Cerebal Palsy which was not
diagnosed until he was 5 years old.with the help of
parents, relatives and friends he had the support to
progress through the educational system to receive a PhD
in Sociology from the University of Sterling in Scotland.
Nagler specializes in the study of disability-related
issues, deviance and race and ethnic relations. He is the
immediate past president of the Advocacy Resource Center
for the Handicapped (ARCH) in Toronto, Canada. ARCH is
the umbrella legal clinic which covers 41 organizations
for people with disabilities. Dr. Nagler has also chaired
a committee for people with disabilities on behalf of the
Canadian Jewish Congress. He is presently Associate
Professor in the Department of Sociology at Renison
College, University of waterloo, Waterloo, Ontario,
Canada. Dr. Nagler is also editor of the book
"Perspectives on Disability," 1st and 2nd
editions. He will be coming out with a 3rd edition, next
year.
- Dance>Detour at UIC
Dance>Detour is Chicago's "mixed abilities"
dance troupe. They have performed with the Joffrey Ballet
and Chicago's Bryant Ballet. Dance >Detour is a
culturally diverse troupe of seven skilled, multitalented
artists who explore the philosophy that everyone can
dance regardless of their individual and varying range of
physical abilities.

Luncheon and Award Ceremony
The Chancellor's Committee on the Status of Persons with
Disabilities will recognize UIC's Faculty and Staff
members who went the "Extra Mile" in supporting
students with disabilities. Students nominate faculty or
staff who have made a difference and who went over and
above accommodation.
