Monthly Meeting Minutes

Meeting called to order : By David Mitchell
Approval of agenda : A motion to approve the agenda was initiated by Peter Berg, seconded by Sally Bialas-Bittenbinder, and approved with a discussion added by David Mitchell.
Approval of minutes : A motion to approve the meeting minutes from August 8, 2003 was made and approved.
Old business:
Introduction of new members
New members of the year were introduced.
Meeting times/locations
A decision was reached to hold general meetings on the third Fridays of every other month 11:30-1:00pm at DHSP Room 448. Subcommittees will meet on alternate months.
Sub-committees
Past sub-committee structures were reviewed and discussed. Three sub-committees; disability service model, program, access subcommittees were motioned to approve by Peter Berg, seconded by Carlos Drazen, and approved unanimously. Chairs of the committees will be Carol Gill (Disability Services Model), Peter Berg (Program), Joy Hammel and Vandana Chaudhry (Access). Chairs of each subcommittee will recruit members via the listserv.
Main objectives
Three major objectives for the year were listed and approved with a discussion of diversity added by Carlos.
Creating a disability service vision
Holding one-day public event with a focus on diversity
Reporting access issues around the campus
Women's Leadership Symposium Co-sponsorship Request
The office of women's affairs requested $350 sponsorship for the Women's Leadership Symposium. Discussion was held regarding disability recognition and representation of disability in the event. Sally volunteered to raise the issue of disability awareness to the Office of women's affairs in order to address our perspective. Carol Gill proposed that the committee sponsor $100. Sponsorship of $100 was approved with one opposition.
Old Business
Race/Disability Conference
Lennard Davis planned a Race and New Genomics conference and has requested $2000 sponsorship. More information and written request will be brought to the committee.
No reports were made due the absence of certain key members
