Each year hundreds of thousands of kids find themselves traversing through the most tempestuous period of life - adolescents. A conglomeration of defining moments that serves as a springboard into adulthood. How effective a young person is in handling the numerous and intricate variables that are presented during this transient stage of life can have a significant impact on how successful they are as adults.

On any given night, there are literally a thousand youth roaming the streets, couch surfing, sleeping in their cars and taking extreme risks to survive within the Kansas City Metropolis. This population of vagrant youth includes "throw-away kids", those youth who have been literally thrown out of their homes by their parents and/or legal guardians as well as those who left on their own accord and those who aged out of states custody without a viable plan.

Resilience is a major factor in our ability to overcome a crisis or series of misfortunes or a traumatic event. Using evidenced-based research and real-life scenarios participants will have the opportunity to learn a positive approach to working with negative situations. The workshop will build on the Strengths-Based and Multi-Systemic principles to be an interactive experience where participants will learn about the power of resiliency and how to apply it to crisis intervention work with youth.

Whether you are a seasoned veteran or a novice, we expect you will walk away with a new perspective on effectively working with those in crisis. Through a series of misfortunes, the core concepts of resiliency will be demonstrated; key terms defined and strategies to becoming resilient addressed.
