In our daily practices, we utilize strategies and techniques assist our clients in resolving the issues and concerns they bring to the counseling environment Did you know these same interventions are just as effective when used in crisis counseling In this seminar we are going to demonstrate nine identified strategies: Awareness brings to conscious awareness denied feelings and thoughts that freeze the clients ability to act in response to the crisis; Catharsis provides a safe environment for clients to expose feelings that may be perceived as unacceptable to share; Validation substantiates the clients reaction as normal, given the type and duration of the crisis; Expansion engages the client in activities to broaden perception and interpretation of the crisis; Guidance provides information, referrals, and direction in obtaining assistance from other sources; Mobilization attempts to activate and marshal internal resources and external support systems to generate coping skills. Ordering methodically classifies and clarifies issues, assists in  prioritzing the client's issues and responses. and then logically resolve them; and protection ensures safety We will also describe and demonstrate the three types of intervention: Direct Intervention, which instructs, Collaborative Intervention, which put us in a partnership with the client; and Indirect Intervention which means listening to our clients Each of these will be addressed on the Affective, Behavioral, and Cognitive Levels. You will become more aware of these techniques, how you use them in your current practice, and how they may be applied effectively in a Crisis situation This session will allow the opportunity to brush up on your current counseling skills and identify ways to improve your skills while becoming more comfortable in Crisis counseling as well.
