Volunteer Recruitment and Retention
Connie Hammond, Volunteer Coordinator
Crisis Center, Scioto Paint Valley Mental Health Center
4449 S. R..159 Chillicothe, Ohio 45601
In today's world it is becoming a real challenge to fiend those community oriented people that are interested in
volunteering. It is even more challenging to find those individuals who axe suited to work in the mental health field.
This workshop will highlight the volunteer program for the Crisis Center oŁ Scioto Paint Valley Mental Health Center.
Our Crisis Center is a twenty-four hour service covering five counties in a rural Appalachian area. We provided
intervention services to both telephone and walk-in clients. For twenty-two years our program has successfully staffed our
center with paraprofessional volunteers.
In today's society it is becoming increasing difficult to located those persons who are suitable and willing to contribute
their time to assist others. This session will, examine how agencies can. find resources within their own communities for
potential volunteers. Screening individuals for volunteer positions will also be discussed. As well as what an agency needs
to provide to maintain those volunteers already working within their organization.
We will also be inviting others to share their ideas of volunteer recruitment and retention during this workshop.
