Solution Focused Intervention

Crisis Intervention is geared toward working with people in immediate crisis. Generally speaking, these people have tunnel vision and are stuck in wanting immediate resolution and are expecting someone to solve their problems. They are problem oriented and tend to see themselves as having no abilities to solve the crisis at hand. The trained paraprofessionals feel the intense pressure to help everyone requesting services.-

The Solution Focused Intervention is change oriented and is focused on the problem at hand. This process encourages clients to utilize their own strengths and helps the client move from a problem oriented focus to a solution oriented focus. This intervention is based on small changes brings about further changes. When clients are able to see some difference they begin to value their own coping skills.

The goals of this workshop are:

• to provide participants with a model that effectively places responsibility for change with the client.

• to provide participants with a model that is solution focused.

• to provide participants with the tools to help clients identify exactly where they are in their crisis.

• to provide participants with a model that can be utilized in any crisis.

• to provide participants with a model that works in keeping a client focused on what they can do to bring about change and therefore takes the pressure for change off the paraprofessional providing service.
