Minutes from August 11, 1998 DACC Meeting PRESENT: Larry Biondi, Kathleen Rose Winter, Elandria Henderson, Melinda Morrissey, Rob Rotman, Mike Ervin, Anna stonum, Amy Serpe, Carol Gill, Larry Voss, Ellen Trenn, and Frances Maggio ABSENT: Mark Karner, Jo Holzer, Mark Stein, Mike Stein, Alana Hodges-Wallace, Katie Sliverman, Carol Kiendle, and Drew Browning. Introductions were made. The group welcomed Frances Maggio, an Art Designer teacher at Columbia College, and who assisted in the production of the " Plucky and Spunky Show." The July minutes were accepted but Melinda had some confusion about the minutes regarding the sponsors of DACC monthly events, but after further discussion the minutes got clarified. Kathleen passed out a "mock" flyer that the PR/Outreach Committee prepared. The group decided the first DACC event will be at UIC with the topic of Disability Culture and the history of DACC, led by Carol Gill and Larry Voss. There will also be a video entitled "Vital Signs" shown after the presentation. Amy suggested that DACC hold events every other month because she felt the group doesn't have the time nor the energy to do it every month. The group agreed. Larry V. suggested that we should have "lead time" for our first time to generate a lot of interest from the community. Kathleen volunteered to put notices in newsletters of local organizations to promote the event. Larry B. will write notices to organizations to recruit new DACC members. It was decided the first event will be held on Friday, October 16th from 5:30-8:00 pm. Kathy will call Larry V. by August 13th to find out the exact location at IDHD for the mail out. Larry B. suggested that Progress Center for Independent Living hold DACC's second event, which could coincide with PCIL's 10- year anniversary. The board, however, decided against this idea because the anniversary celebration might distract DACC's purpose of holding such an event. Some Board members felt that DACC needs its own identity and drawing card. It was, however, if PCIL hould have a celebration, DACC members could perform at the event, in addition to staging a bi-monthly event. The Very Special Arts will sponsor the second event on Friday, December 4th from 5:30-8:00 pm. The main event will be an open mike. PCIL will sponsor an event in February, and Victory Gardens will sponsor one in April. Dates and Times were not determined. 1 Fund Raising Report: Melinda said that she'll attend a donors' forum with Katie Sliverman. Melinda also brought up that we should make the emphasis on creating an accessible environment to the arts when eliciting donors.Melinda said that Chuck Close, a disabled artist from New York, might help us in getting donors, but it's a long- shot. Mike said that as of this year, the Illinois Arts Council is offering grants - up to $10,000 - to a disability-specific art organization. We should hit them up. Program Committee: No report. Logistics Committee: Mike said the committee is waiting for funding and a justified argument on renting space at IDHD. Melinda announced that the next DACC meeting will be on Thursday, September 10th at IDHD from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Meeting was adjourned at 7:25 PM. Respectfully Submitted, Larry
