"Global Economic Recovery: Cities Lead the Way"
Date: April 27, 2009
Location: UIC Forum
University of Illinois at Chicago
The 5th Annual Richard J. Daley Urban Forum focuses on the most pressing issue facing cities around the world: recovery from a global economic crisis that has imperiled both public and private finance and cost citizens their jobs, homes and access to healthcare and education. Because cities contribute the majority of the world's gross economic product and are responsible for most new job creation, the vitality of our cities is crucial to recovery. Economic recovery will involve global cooperation, and bold leadership within the urban government, business and civic spheres. Participants in the Forum will explore two key questions: What are the key obstacles to recovery? And what are the most imaginative steps we are taking to reinvest in a new and sustainable future?
Municipal leaders from global and national cities, along with scholars and corporate executives, will gather for an intimate and interactive discussion about how cities can lead the way to global economic recovery. This is a unique opportunity for Forum attendees to interact with world leaders, share innovative ideas, realize new prospects and play an active role in working toward economic recovery on a local, national and global scale. In true United Nations fashion, translation into six languages will be provided.
