Thank-you Marty for your wonderful advice. I'm very
interested in specific schools that you have had
experience with. When you say a school with a "marine
biology focus" should i look for a school with a
separate laboratory (I think Duke University has one)?
I'm really starting to look into schools more
seriously and I am also a swimmer and would like to
swim in college so i need to coordinate that also. Any
more advice would be great. And one more thing..do you
still love marine biology after doing it for 20 years?
Thank you.

Q: (Initially posted on February 21, 2003) FROM MENTEE IN KAREN S. IN NY
I am very interested in animals and working with them, but I do not like to see anything or anybody in serious pain. I should be immune to it, because my father was a volunteer EMT, but I cannot get over my emotions when I see emergency medical problems. I work at the vet's office sometimes, and last year, an elderly couple came in with their dog. In a very emotional scene, the vet told the couple that their dog ( I formed an attachment, although not strong, to it in under 3 minutes) had to be put down in about a month. I am very sensitive to other's pain and to animals, and I could barely stop my tears at hearing this news. Rather than being a vet, do you think that zoology would be a better choice so that I can work with animals, but not see their pain constantly?

Q: (Initially posted on February 11, 2003) FROM MENTEE SHANNON L. IN NJ
In my class on every Friday, we work on a project for TSA technology
Student Association. We are to come up with a problem in the medical field
that we can come up with a solution to the problem. Originally my group was
going to make a new stretcher design but because we cannot get a stretcher
to work on, we have decided that it might not work. I have thought about
this: When one breaks their arm, after it is set doctors put you in a soft
cast before a hard Cast. If we can get 3 blood pressure cuffs and place
them in a row to help us design a new soft cast. As the swelling goes down
on your arm or the pain increases, you can pump the new cast up to lessen
the pain and it still will be immobilized at the same time. If you have any
suggestion or comments on how u think I should do this please let me know.
The deadline for TSA completion is in early march, which does not give us
much time.

I heard that when the space shuttle Columbia left earth, part of the shuttle wing was hurt. So why did they let them leave earth without repairing the wing? Even though that might not be the cause, but wouldn't that be considered dangerous?

The deadline for TSA completion is in early march, which does not give us
much time.

I am having some difficulties with some pictures I want to be able to send to my friends through yahoomail. I received the picture through yahoomail from a friend, which she got off her digital camera. The first thing i tried was to forward the pictures... which did not work because it was too big. So I tried to forward one picture at a time.. still too big. It needs to be smaller than 1000k, and it is currently at 5000k. I have no idea how to make this picture smaller. I need some ideas!
