Q: (Initially posted on 8/12) FROM MODERATOR SARAH SHIRK IN IL
Did you do anything related to science, engineering, and technology this Summer?
If yes, what was it? Can you think of ways that science, engineering, and technology made your Summer vacation more fun? How?

A: FROM MENTEE KATHRYN T. IN VA

How science, engineering and technology figured into my summer:

Since I am an athlete and have been getting recruited all summer by various coaches, I have had to figure out what colleges will offer me the most stimulating science courses and still allow me to participate in a Division 1 lacrosse program. I have been pouring over college catalogs where I will possibly attend so that I can make an informed decision by October.

The fun part of technology has been to have lots of time to e-mail my friends, something that is limited during the school year. I have also used the internet to plan trips to lacrosse tournaments by finding less expensive hotel rooms.

Yes, this summer I attended a camp called SMART Girls in Williamsport,
Pennsylvania. We had a lot of fun exploring different SET related careers
including a nanofabrication facility in State College, Pennsylvania. We
learned a lot and it was very educational, when I got home I even showed
some of my neighbors the things that I got to experience. We we also on a
local TV station while we operated heavy machinery.
