Q: (Initially posted on 8/20) FROM MENTEE AMANDA T. IN MO
How do you know where the edge of the bed is even when you are asleep?

August 21, 2002
A: FROM MENTOR JOAN LUSK. FOR BIO. CLICK HERE.
It's not unheard-of for a child to fall out of bed, and we put babies
in cribs to keep them from falling out. Perhaps we learn to sense
that an arm or a leg is dangling over the edge and draw back without
waking up?
http://parents.berkeley.edu/advice/sleep/babyfall.html
gives advice to parents who are concerned about babies falling out of
bed...
http://www.dreamdoctor.com/common/falling2.shtml
discusses dreams of falling, caused by having a leg hang over the edge. Other
sites I found searching on "falling out of bed" talk about it being a
problem for developmentally delayed people, or senile people, or people with
Huntington's disease.
