Q: (Initially posted on 10/29/02) FROM MENTEE LAUREL S. IN INDIANA
I am thinking about studying animal behavior in college. What types of jobs are available in that field? Are they research or teaching positions? How difficult is it to find a job in that area?

A: FROM MENTOR SHARON ROSH IN NJ
I saw your question and thought I might be able to give you some input. I am a
veterinarian and I work with animal behaviorist. I am a small animal
veterinarian and so I deal with behaviorists who work with dogs and cats but I
know that there is a field for most species when it comes to behavior. You
certainly could find a job in the private sector or do research for a university
or a zoo. I do not have any specific web sites to guide you to, but you may want
to ask your local veterinarian about a behaviorist he/she knows and then that
would be a foot in the door. Good luck.
