Q: (Initially posted on 10/31/02) FROM MENTOR JOAN LUSK IN RI
In response to Lauren's previous question, "What would you say is the #1 invention of all human time?" Joan suggests a new question along the same lines . . . read on . . .
I was sure someone would say the telephone! Not to mention the
ubiquitous cell phone. How about the zapper machine that removes my
number from the computerized calling lists - that's a good one.
Let's have some really frivolous answers here - what's the cleverest
funniest invention that you "can't live without?" How about Lycra?
Permanent press? Post-it notes?

A: FROM MENTOR SUZANNE FRANKS IN KS
One of my favorites is velcro!
And two of my very biggest favorites are bread and cheese.
yes, someone had to invent the process of making both.
(and I'm betting it was women who did so.) I just couldn't
live without bread and cheese!
I am also VERY grateful for shoes, and even more grateful
for stylish shoes of many varieties! (I admit, I am a shoe freak.)
I'm also grateful for the new Volkswagen Beetle - I drive one
that's just the color of a sapphire, and I have named it
Saffire, the Uppity Blues Beetle (which is a takeoff on the
group Saffire, The Uppity Blues Women - if you haven't heard
of them, you should listen to their music!) Which leads to the
last item on my list - I am grateful for all the technology that
lets me listen to music at home, in the car, at work!

A: FROM MENTOR KRISTIN TAGHON IN IL
I really love
1) orange peelers - it really makes peeling an orange less messy.
2) Jar openers (piece of textured rubber that gives one a good grip on the jar)
3) grapefruit spoons\
Getting away from food .... (you know where MY problems lie!)
4) beds and feather pillows and feather comforters ( I love sleeping)
5) credit cards

A: FROM MENTOR MARNITA (MARTY) CHINTALA IN RI
Okay Joan, I have to bite on this one. When I read the initial
question about the #1 invention of all time, I must say that I thought
of some frivolous answers. So here's my list- like you, I kept the
email open during the day so that I could add to it! (in no particular
order of importance, only as I thought of them...)
1. chocolate, especially whoever thought of combining it with peanuts.
2. pajamas with feet in them
3. retractable dog leashes
4. velcro
5. duct tape (can you tell I'm a marine biologist?!?)
6. water pistols
7. zippered plastic bags
8. remote controls
9. the clapper
