Q: (Initially posted on December 6, 2002) FROM MENTEE STELLA L. IN PA
How long have some of the mentors being doing this and what made you decide to mentor to others?

A: FROM MENTOR MAYLING WONG IN IL
I have only been a mentor with GEM-SET for a few weeks. However, I have
been a mentor for a high school student since the beginning of this
summer. The reason I became a mentor was to simply share my experiences
with someone who might travel the same path I did. Perhaps the mentee can
learn from my experiences. It turns out that I benefit from the
relationship as much as the mentee learns from me in that I learn from
someone who is of a different age, gender, and race. Mentoring is great
fun - I hope you may benefit, either as a mentee now or as a mentor later
on.
