What is the male to female ratio of computer systems administrators in employment today?

December 30, 2002
A: FROM MENTOR AIMEE WILLOZ IN MN
A: Meghan, I did some searching on the web, but I wasn't able to come up
with a specific answer to your question. There are a lot of resources out
there, so I recommend using a search engine like google.com with some of
the following search strings: "women computer", "computer employment
statistics", "women computer statistics", and "women computer systems
admin". When I used these, I came up with a lot of interesting
information, although I couldn't find the answer to your specific question.
Here are some interesting things I did find: a report from the "Research
Foundation for Improving the Representation of Women in the Technology
Workforce" (sponsored by the National Science Foundation):
http://www.cise.nsf.gov/div/eia/cwardle/it_wmen/it_wmen.htm
If you're looking for really comprehensive labor statistics, I recommend
checking out the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in the US Department of Labor:
http://www.bls.gov/home.htm -- I didn't see anything specifically about
women in computer careers (there were things about men/women, and things
about computer careers, but I didn't find anything that combined the two).
There is much more on their website that I had a chance to look through.
Good luck - I hope you find interesting information!
