Q: (Initially posted on January 21, 2003) FROM MENTEE BRITTANY IN CA
With the popularity of television shows like CSI and Forensic Files, is the work force going to be bombarded with people interested in the forensics field, or will there be ample jobs in the years ahead?

Janurary 23, 2003
A: FROM MENTOR ROSE CLARK IN PA
We have a forensics concentration in chemistry at our university and we
are seeing an increase in the number of applicants interested in
forensics. I do believe that if all of the students coming in as
forensics majors complete the degree there will not be enough jobs in
this field. In our department; however, the students will be getting a
B.S. in chemistry along with there forensics concentration so that they
will be marketable in any area of chemistry. If the forensic chemistry
positions are all full when they graduate, they will be able to purse
other chemistry positions. I would recommend making sure that you have
other options with whatever degree you choose in college.
