Although I'm in engineering and can't speak for the curriculum
required to
become a pharmacist, I wanted to
comment on salary information. There's a great website you
can use called
Best Jobs USA, located at
http://www.bestjobsusa.com/index-jsk-ns.asp
You can use it to find information on jobs and job opportunities
all over
the country, employers of choice,
resume writing, salary information, and many more topics.
From the
homepage URL above, you'll find
"Salary Survey 2002" listed in a menu in the right
column. After picking
the option for "Healthcare Positions"
I could find Pharmacist's salaries were as follows :
Avg Min $42,901 Mean Avg $47776 Avg Max $52,701
I bet the average minimum salary would be pretty close to
the salaries for
beginning Pharmacists.
There were also listings for Pharmacy Techs and Pharmacy Directors.
Check it out - there were also three newly posted job openings
(under "New
Jobs") on the homepage
for careers in the Pharmaceutical Industry. You might also
want to look
into Pharmaceutical Sales as another
option - I've heard their salaries (including sales commissions)
are quite
high.
Good luck!

Pharmacy programs require fundamental chemistry and biology
courses.
Normally students complete a Pre-Pharmacy program consisting
of one
year of general chemistry, one year of organic chemistry,
one year of
biology, one semester of physics, one semester of microbiology
and
the core courses required by the University. Upon satisfactory
completion of the pre-pharmacy program students are admitted
into the
Professional Pharmacy Program. The Doctor of Pharmacy degree
is
awarded upon completing the requirements - courses and an
internship.
The starting salary will depend on location and Board Certification.
