Q:(Initially posted on January 27, 2003) FROM MENTEE RUTH

Can someone who has participated in a Science Olympiad help
me to get a
perspective of what I should expect in such an event? I'm
participating in
this Academic event for the first time, and I have NO clue
how rigorous
and/or competitive it is? Any suggestions for me? I'm doing
"Feathered
Frenzy" (it's all about birds - many birds and I'm stunned
on how many birds
I have to memorize. It seems impossible. I'm overwhelmed).
HELP!!!

Hey don't freak out about the Science Olympiad. I did somewhat
participate in the Olympiad when they first set it up last
year at my
school (I think that's correct but I am not sure since I was
a freshman
last year). Anyhow, I am also preparing for another Academic
competition,
but it is a Deaf Academic Bowl Competition held in Colorado
Springs this
year. And, so what I suggest to you is to study a range of
little topics
here and there that you've learned in Science. Basically it
is just a
competition testing what you have learned and know, but it
is great if
you can study more just to be safe. Nonetheless, have fun
and good luck!
