Q: (Initially posted on February 14, 2003) FROM MENTEE MEGAN IN VT
I am a Junior in high school. I am picking my classes for next year
right now. I am wondering what class I should really look into if I can not
take both of them because my classes are all filled. It is Algebra 2 and
computer programming. I have done all my math classes and I want to take
another one. I want to take them both because I think it will help me in the
careers I am going for. I am going to go to college for Computer Animation
and Graphic Design.

My advice would be to take Algebra II. Granted computer programming will be
of some advantage to you later but I consider Algebra II to be on of those
fundamentally math classes. It will not only help you with computers and
programing later but teaches you skills that are an advantage in any
technology or science class you might take. Another piece of advice --
Lookat RPI in Troy, NY. They have a good program called
EMAC (http://www.emac.rpi.edu/ ) Best of luck.
