Q: (Initially posted on February 25, 2003) FROM MENTEE LORI R. IN MI
I am really interested in going into the Armed Forces. How can I get more
information about them, and how can I get more information about what fields
of study they offer?

A: FROM MODERATOR SARAH SHIRK IN IL
Each of the armed forces has a web site for you to learn more about them. These web sites are: http://www.af.mil, http://www.army.mil, http://www.navy.mil, http://www.usmc.mil.

Within each of the armed forces there are hundreds of jobs that necessitate science, engineering and technology backgrounds. If you have a desire to work in government I would also recommend agencies such as the Centers for Disease Control or the Peace Corps. These agencies also need smart scientist and engineers to make their programs successful.

What appeals to you about the armed forces? Is it the travel? Could it be the economic benefits? Do you have friends in the armed forces? I would recommend talking to people in each of the armed forces to learn the pros and cons of each. Good luck!
