I found an interesting website for the National Association
of Engineers.
It even has a section devoted to girls interested in
engineering. Cool. They list engineering careers in categories
such as communications, energy, machines, entertainment.
Within each category they list specific engineering disciplines
and a brief definition and a link to more details.
See if this helps! It looked like a good source to me.
It is focused on matching your interests with engineering
careers.
For each specific type of engineering the link contains examples
of work, educational requirements, the work environment, starting
salaries, and more.

I think this is a great site to explore. If you go the "careers"
button on
the left and follow it you can get lots of good info. There
are also a
number of fun things at this site.

For a good overview of engineering go to the the National
Engineers
Week website, sponsored by the National Society of Professional
Engineers.
http://www.eweek.org/
Within their menu is a "discover engineering" option
at
http://www.discoverengineering.org/eweek/index.html
There's a good overall description of engineering and links
to the
subdisciplines.
Another good place is the Society of Women Engineers at
www.swe.org
They also have career information with links to other professional
societies supporting the individual engineering disciplines.
