Q: (Initially posted on May 6, 2003) FROM MENTEE GRETA H. IN MN
I am considering going into the national guard or army reserves. I plan on going into the nursing field next year after I graduate. I was just wondering if any one has experiences they would like to share or input into which branch might be better?Thank You.

A: FROM MENTOR JEN FAIRCHILD IN MA
I am not in the military, but a friend of mine who has done service in the
Army suggested the Army Reserves over the National Guard. The reasoning was that
the Army Reserves are Federally funded(more money for support), where the
National Guard is funded by the state in which you live. Taking it a bit
further, apparently the Air Force would proivide the best duty.

A: FROM MENTOR DIANA DIONISIO IN CA
I have a friend who signed up for the army reserve. He went to training and started school a semester late in college, but now they're paying for his education. They want him to become an officer. You can be in the army reserve or national guard and they will give you scholarships for school in return for your service. Just think about whether you want to be committed to serving or really just want to be a nurse, taking care of patients.
