Q: (Initially posted on May 20, 2003) FROM MENTEE ELIZABETH A. IN CO
Would I have to take a Physics class as a Senior in High School, if I want to become a Biotechnologist or a Forensic Scientist?

A: FROM MENTOR REGINA SIZEMORE IN KY
Elizabeth,
I would definitely recommend that you take Physics as a high
school student. As a high school science teacher, I would advise all
students who plan to take courses in science, engineering, math, or
technology to take physics as a high school student. Physics is an excellent
course to learn and use problem solving skills. Even though you may never
take a physics course again (Yet, if you plan to do engineering or science
-- you will take physics again -- it happens to be a fundamental science
needed to understand other science fields) the skills you gain in a good
high school science course will help you in any type of problem solving
situation. The high school physics course might not be your favorite ( many
times is a very difficult one) but having exposure to physics in high school
will aid you in your course work in college.

Best of Luck
