Q: (Initially posted on July 24, 2003) FROM MENTEE

Is there a career in science, engineering or
technology that would include an interest
in biology and marketing? Those are two
topics I am interested in and I'd like to
see if I can do both of them in a career
in the science field. |

All products (even Scientifically based ones) need to be marketed.
This
requires someone with the technical understanding and scientific
background
to be able to market the product to customers. Look at
( http://www.medrad.com)and
to see their products and then look at their job
openings and read through the job requirements for marketing
and product
development.

Biotechs and pharmaceutical companies need people with science
degrees and good business acumen. Get a double degree in some
field of science that interests you plus a marketing degree.
Try to get experience in a lab while you are getting your
degree. Either volunteer or get a job. If you can get an internship
in the marketing field as well, your experience plus degrees
will be extremely valuable. Experience wins above all.
