Q: (Initially posted on 11/3/03) FROM MEMBER CAITLIN C.
I really find that I like designing advertisements. But how can that relate to GEM-SET?

A: FROM MENTOR CHANDRA INGLIS IN WV
I think advertising and GEM-SET are completely compatible. If you like
advertising you can always study Graphic Design. With Graphic Design you
work with computers (science and technology). Then you could work for an
advertising firm that markets anything from cars (engineering) to new
medical breakthroughs.

A: FROM MENTOR JOAN LUSK IN RI
The psychology behind ads can be pretty interesting, and knowing
about the psychology would influence your design. For example, I've
heard that it's really true that in a blind taste test more people
prefer Pepsi to Coke - but if they know which is Coke, more prefer
that brand. What is it about our minds that makes brand advertising
override the evidence of our senses? Why do pictures of pretty women
sell merchandise that has nothing to do with beauty or women? What
non-verbal features of an ad attract customers and what features
drive them away?
