Q: (Initially posted December 17, 2003) FROM MEMBER JULIE D. IN IL
My college plan is to go into veterinary medicine. I would really like to receive more information on colleges if the mentors can provide it.I would appreciate it, thank you.

A: FROM MENTOR SUZETTE MINORINI IN TX
Texas A&M (on the web at http://www.tamu.edu) has one of the most prestigous
veterinary medine colleges in the country. There are several disciplines
within the school of veterinary medine including Veterinary anatomy and
public health, veterinary pathobiology and veterinary physiology and
pharamacology. Also, the Association of American Veterinary Medical
Colleges (AAVMC) has a great website which lists all the U.S. Veterinary schools
(about 28) and offers information about how to obtain scholarships
(http://aavmc.org/studop.htm). Good Luck!

A: FROM MENTOR SHARON ROSH, DVM IN NJ
Hi Julie,
There are now 27 United States Veterinary Colleges. These colleges are
as diverse as the student body. I went to Auburn University in Auburn
Alabama. For me, it was a great match. What are you interested in?
That is, do you want to practice veterinary medicine or do research or
participate in zoo medicine? These are important questions because
affect the choice you make. My best suggestion is to look at the
different areas of the US you are interested in and then investigate
the school in that area. Don't forget you can also study abroad!! Good
luck
