Q: (Initially posted April 21, 2004) FROM STUDENT MEMBER ELIZABETH A. IN CO
What type of math and science would I have to take to become a biotechnologist?

April 27, 2004
A: FROM MENTOR AMY MCMILLAN IN NY
Hi Elizabeth, Biotechnology is a very science and math focused field.
My department is creating a biotechnology track in our Biology degree
that includes courses in cell biology, genetics, microbiology,
biochemistry, molecular biology and recombinant DNA technology among
other courses. We also expect students to take calculus and statistics
for biologists, general chemistry, organic chemistry, and physics.
Different biotechnology programs will have some different courses
expected but plan on having many math, chemistry and science courses to
get into this fantastic field. There are many excellent, high-paying
jobs in biotechnology if you work hard and give it your best!
