Q: (Initially posted August 2, 2004) FROM STUDENTS AT THE ASIAN SOCIAL NETWORK IN IL
There is a Japanese beetle infestation in our area.  Do they spread out from where they burrow and wreak havoc?  Or is the chemical lawn treatment guy just trying to scare us into buying his pesticide services?

A: FROM MENTOR KRISTIN TAGHON IN IL
Hi!
I did a search for "Japanese Beetle" on google and found the following web
site. Check it out. It's VERY informative and lists how to deal with it.
You can also find how to make sure you have a problem.

http://www.pueblo.gsa.gov/cic_text/housing/japanese-beetle/jbeetle.html

The site says that the beetles are not a problem in Asia because there are
animals and insects that eat them and keep them in check. But, in the
U.S., this is not so. it says to make sure you have a problem before
treating it with chemicals and to make sure you're using the right system.
The website will tell you what to use and you can print it off and show it
to your parents.
