How is it possible that I can download such things as music,
games, and pictures on my cell phone without having to connect
with any wires? How exactly does this whole wireless
technology work?

A: FROM MENTOR LORI KANE IN
MA
Wireless technology is really the same as wired, but instead
of
transmitting data packets over cables, they are transmitted
through the
air. There are different ways that wireless devices can talk
to each other
(called protocols). One common protocol used in wireless phones
is called
WAP (Wireless Application Protocol): http://computer.howstuffworks.com/wireless-internet.htm
Bluetooth is another standard used for short-range wireless
connections.
You could use Bluetooth to exchange files between your cell
phone and your
computer: http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/bluetooth.htm
WiFi (wireless fidelity) is a technology that allows you to
join computers
together in a network without wires: http://computer.howstuffworks.com/wireless-network.htm
