How is it possible that I can download such things as music, games, and pictures on my cell phone without having to connect with any wires? How exactly does this whole wireless
technology work?

Wireless technology is really the same as wired, but instead of
transmitting data packets over cables, they are transmitted through the
air. There are different ways that wireless devices can talk to each other
(called protocols). One common protocol used in wireless phones is called
WAP (Wireless Application Protocol):

Bluetooth is another standard used for short-range wireless connections.
You could use Bluetooth to exchange files between your cell phone and your
computer:

WiFi (wireless fidelity) is a technology that allows you to join computers
together in a network without wires:
