I have a cousin that went to the Culinary Institute of America
in
upstate New York. It is probably the best or one of the best
culinary
schools in the US. They may have summer workshops. You can
probably
find them on the internet. There is also a school in New Orleans
that
has a really good reputation.

Hi! I recently visited The Culinary Institute of America,
one of the
premier culinary schools in the country, near Poughkeepsie,
NY:
http://www.ciachef.edu/
They have an extensive Continuing Education program with classes
for all
ages ("from eight to eighty" according to their
website) so you could try
a couple of classes and see if you enjoy them. They also have
a campus in
St. Helena, California.
There are many other culinary schools in the country. Here
is a website
that lists many of them:

I hope this helps. Good luck!

There's a fine culinary school here in Providence at Johnson
and Wales
University, and I know of others in Montpelier, VT and ~100
miles north of
NYC in Hyde Park. If you Google "Culinary Institute"
a long list will pop
up. Googling "cooking workshop" got another long
list - there's quite an
industry, apparently, of gastronomic tourism. Visit Thailand
and study
Thai cooking at the same time, for example. It might make
a great family
vacation if they rest of your family is also interested.
Why not introduce yourself to the chef at your favorite restaurant
and ask
for local opportunities?

Yeseul, One of the top culinary schools in the US is the Culinary
Institute
of America located in Hyde Park, NY. In addition, there are
many
independent culinary schools located across the country. Some
universities
have excellent programs as well. For example, Johnson and
Wales in Rhode
Island is well known for its culinary arts program. Your local
community
college or community continuing education programs may offer
affordable
workshops. Some large high schools have culinary arts programs
- Peabody
Veterans' Memorial High School in Peabody MA offers such a
program.

There are excellent culinary schools across the country.
One of the best is the Culinary Institute of America:
http://www.ciachef.edu/
If you go to this link, it discusses some of the things to
look for
in a culinary school, and how to make your choice:

Finally, There are ways to get culinary training without paying
the
high tuitions at culinary schools.
First, contact schools and ask about financial aid.
Second, a number of community colleges have courses in cooking
and
the culinary arts that train you as effectively as many of
the
culinary schools do. They also cost a heck of a lot less.
One program
is right here where I live, in San Francisco at the City College
of
San Francisco.

You might try looking up community colleges in your area and
searching for a department of "Culinary Arts", or
"hospitality
studies". Sometimes these courses are in departments
with names like
"hotel and restaurant management", or similar names-
look around.
It might not seem like a community college would be as good
as a
Culinary Institute, but you would be surprised- many are excellent-
a
real bargain for the training you get, and will help you get
internships at restaurants, which is really how you get started.
