Q: (Initially posted February 15, 2005) FROM STUDENT MEMBER ARYANA IN MA
What is beyond the universe?

A: FROM MENTOR SARAH SHIRK IN IL
Hi Aryana-
That is a tough question to answer. My understanding of space is that the universe is infinite. In fact, Albert Einstein once said, "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former."

In addition to being a genius physicist, he also had a great sense of humor. But back to your question, if something is infinite, can there be matter beyond it that is also infinite? I think you should study physics and philosophy as much as you can to help to answser this question for yourself!

Keep asking scientific questions and your life will be filled with exploration and discovery.
