Although I am a healthy young woman, I easily gain weight.
I work out regularly, eat healthily and am in shape. {My doctor
verifies this.} I have acquaintances who eat much more {and
not as healthy food as I} and are not athletes. They, however,
are much thinner than I am. Is this simply a matter of different
metabolisms, or body types, or is there something else that
causes different amounts of weight gain in humans?

Hi
I have to make a long commute to school, and I would like
to use that time to write my papers. And sometimes (usually
when I really need one) I have free periods during school
and no computers are available. I was thinking about buying
a laptop but I cant afford one right now. Do you know any
essay/poem contest or sweepstakes that give laptops as a prize
to high school students?
I found one on poetry.com but I don't know if it is legitimate
and I am hesitant to give my address over the Internet. How
can I tell that a sweepstakes or contest is legitimate?

I would like to look into a career in medicine. I am especially
interested in surgery, yet I don't have a really strong stomach.
I can dissect things without a problem, but in surgery one
is working with a live human (or animal), and I do not know
how to get over that fear. Over the summer I'm going to volunteer
at a local hospital, in the ER and the Maternity ward. Is
there anything else besides volunteering that would help me
overcome the "fear" of working with a live human
or animal?

I have a question regarding something someone told me
that I find highly unlikely of happening. I was
informed that a chicken who had its head cut off lived
for months. Is there any truth to this story, and if
there is, how is it possible? Even if autonomic
parts of the brain that allow the body to maintain
homeostasis, like the medulla oblongata, were not cut
off, wouldn't there still be a substantial amount of
blood loss that would keep the chicken from living?
And what about other factors (e.g. food, water,
antigens)that would require a fully functional
chicken?

I found one on poetry.com but I dont know if it is ligitimate
and I am hesitant to give my address over the Internet. How
can I tell that a sweepstakes or contest is legitimate?

I have a question regarding something someone told me
that I find highly unlikely of happening. I was
informed that a chicken who had its head cut off lived
for months. Is there any truth to this story, and if
there is, how is it possible? Even if autonomic
parts of the brain that allow the body to maintain
homeostasis, like the medulla oblongata, were not cut
off, wouldn't there still be a substantial amount of
blood loss that would keep the chicken from living?
And what about other factors (e.g. food, water, antigens)that
would require a fully functional
chicken?

I am a freshman in high school who is completing her third
year of Latin, (Latin II). I am interested in becoming a P.A.,
possibly a veterinarian, and will most likely begin work on
the ambulance this summer. Because of my school schedule,
I will be unable to take Latin III next year. Is Latin valuable
enough to my possible future medical career or SAT scores
(for good college placement) for me to devote a portion of
my already busy summer to taking it as an independent study?
