Questions for mentors
*********************
Q: (Initially posted March 31, 2004) FROM STUDENT MEMBER KIM R. IN IL
Could anyone tell me what right now the most popular type of architecture
is? [Can you recommend a school of architecture or a firm that is really "hot" now in the marketplace?]
********************
Q: (Initially posted March 31, 2004) FROM STUDENT MEMBER KAREN H. IN CA
I am planning to take the SAT II for Biology this June but I don't know whether to take ecology or molecular biology. I feel well prepared for both. Is there a subject that colleges prefer that students take, or should I take both?
********************
Q: (Initially posted March 30, 2004) FROM STUDENT MEMBER KAM S. IN IL
What is the percentage rate of dangerous toxins in the air in the U.S.?
What about world-wide? [Also, are there any mentors who do work that helps to improve the air quality? In your opinion, what are the most dangerous air-borne toxins?]

Q & A

Q: (Initially posted March 22, 2004) FROM STUDENT MEMBER ALEXIS K. IN VA
A new planet (or planetoid) has been discovered. It's called Sedna and it's
either in the Kuiper belt or the Oort cloud. Kuiper and Oort were dutch
scientists from the 50's. I have this idea that the Dutch were the biggest
space explorers for a long time. Is that true and is it still true?

I am a freshman in high school and am currently taking geometry. I was getting a 97% in the class in the first semester, but I had to change my schedule in the second semester. My geometry teacher got switched as a result. My counselor informed me that there was no other way to change my schedule again. The problem is, this new teacher has a style of teaching that I am not used to and gives a different style of tests and quizzes. I am having no problem with the material presented, but I am finding that I have an increasingly difficult time on the tests. I am afraid that I might not get into Algebra 2 Honors next year because of my slipping grades in geometry. Is there anything I can start to do to help this late in the semester?

I use to have a wonderful memory. Ever since I have been very busy with school and programs I have noticed that I have been losing alot of memory and sometime it is very difficult for me to talk about something from the past. I have to stay quiet for a while and think very hard in order for me to remember about what I was talking about. Is this normal?

Hi! I am a freshwoman in high school and I am getting back into writing. I
am even starting to consider it for a career. But, I have to admit, I am
starting to drift from science because biology is becoming nothing but notes
and chemistry isn't going to be much fun either. I have always enjoyed science and I
am still involved in technology (I am on a team that builds robots and
competes called FIRST), and I want to stay with science and technology. What
sort of science and technology coincides with writing?
P.S. - I don't like writing that's a drag either. I like writing that is fun
that others can fun and enjoy, like Bill Nye the 'Science Guy.' I loved his
show!

I wish to be an engineer in the future, and I know that there are more men than women in the field of engineering. I'm wondering if the mentors have observed any discriminations made against women when working. I'm also wondering if the male engineers have stereotypes about women that are not true. Is it true that it is harder for women to get noticed when [accomplishing the same successes as men?]
I guess that's it for now! Thank you!

I am wondering if there are any good internships in the computer engineering field in the Northwest Suburb area in Illinois for high schoolers? Also, I would like to shadow someone in the year of 2004-2005 for school as a computer engineer. I need to write daily logs and at the end of the semester, I have to write an essay of what I had learned. If anyone has good advice, then it will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Q: (Initially posted March 16, 2004) FROM STUDENT MEMBER CORINNE C. IN CA

Thanks.
