GEM-SET QUIZ QUESTION-OF-THE-WEEK Marjory Stoneman Douglas wrote a best seller that raised America's consciousness and transformed the Everglades from an area that was looked upon as a useless swamp - to be drained and developed commercially - to a national park that is seen as a valuable environmental resource to be protected and preserved. After this successful campaign to preserve the Everglades as a national park, Douglas continued her work by founding the Friends of the Everglades, a conservation organization with some 5,000 members today. WHAT IS THE NAME OF THE BOOK? BONUS POINT: WHERE ARE THE EVERGLADES?

How could I begin such a career? Where would I start? And what do I need to know?

My horse has already been vaccinated for WN, but the colt that died had been vaccinated twice. Is there anyway I can protect my horse from this horrid virus?

Q: FROM MENTEE ALEXIS K. IN VA
I am researching ocean conservation and am trying to find out if there are any women who dominate/have dominated the field to the same degree as Jacques Cousteau? Thanks for your help!

Q: FROM MENTEE YUNJI K. IN IL
Hello, when I was cooking a sudden idea came to me, and I was curious about the subject plastic. When I put plastic containers, most of the ones from the store melted. Some of the plastic containers like glad and other brand didn't. That is why I realized that those were different kinds of plastic. So, I was wondering, what is this key "ingredient" that enables the object to stay exactly like it was before and not undergo its physical change. I know this could sound a bit silly, but I really want to know. Thank you.

I am interested in dinosaurs but I am afraid to make a commitment to it as a career because of lots of reasons. I heard that you won't get much money (salary), travel a lot, and you have to study in a lot of field (like languages, cultures, etc.) Is this true? What are some disadvantages of being a Paleontologist (am I right?), and what colleges are known to have good reputation in this field? Thank you.

I think I finally figured out what I want to do with my life!!! And just in time. This way I can look at colleges with good programs for me. Here's the deal. I now know that I want to get a masters in business, probably management. Should I take International Business as a minor? And I'm a senior now, and I haven't taken any Accounting classes. I should take one this year right? What other kinds of things should I take into consideration?

Q: FROM MENTEE KATIE D. IN MN
Okay so when i look into a mirror that is for example one foot away from my face, I can see my reflection. But my question is: Am I seeing myself from one foot away or two feet? (the distance to the reflection is one foot but to see the actual reflection, you need to look another foot. So are you seeing yourself twice as far away when you look into a mirror?

I recently completed a two week college camp where I took a physics class. We did a lot of work on velocity, acceleration, and speed of an object in free fall. Most of it was way over my head. Could you please explain what these things are exactly and how you can apply this to daily life?
