I grew up in Boston and attended Boston Public Schools. I graduated
from Girl's Latin School, one of the best high schools in the city.
Even though I enjoyed my math, science, chemistry and physics classes,
it never occurred to me as a teenager to pursue the study of science.
I attended Syracuse University and graduated from the University
of Massachusetts with a B.A. in Sociology. After marrying a physicist
and having three children, I decided to go back to school. My pregnancies,
births and babies sparked an interest in the biology of the human
body and the miracle of life. I attended Boston University to study
Biomedical and Clinical Science and graduated summa cum laude. For
the last 11 years I have worked at Circe Biomedical in Lexington,
Massachusetts. Circe is a small company focused on the development
of artificial organs. I am the assistant manager of the Research
Cell Development Group. Most of my work has been on the bio-artificial
liver, which is used to support the liver function of people who
have liver failure due to disease or chemical toxicity. The most
exciting part of my work has been the opportunity to continue learning.
