I am currently an Archaeologist for the West Virginia Division
of Highways and have been here for two years. Previously I worked
for the Rochester Museum and Science Center located in Rochester
New York, and Mercyhurst Archaeological Institute located in Erie,
Pennsylvania.
I obtained my Bachelors of Science in Anthropology with a concentration
in Archaeology in 1993 from Mercyhurst College. My focus is in Pre-historic
Native American cultures and the cultural remains that they have
left behind. Some of the material we get to study and learn about
include projectile points (arrowheads), fire pits, the remains of
house structures, and burials. I also work on historic properties,
with research, excavation and assessment.
Although there are many great things about my job the two best aspects
are the travel and the extended learning possibilities. Not only
do I get to travel the entire state of West Virginia for projects,
but I also get to go to conferences and classes in other states.
I feel very lucky to get the opportunity to see so many beautiful
and varied places, and to meet new people all the time.
I truly feel that the only barriers you (I) face in life are the
ones you set up for yourself. With a strong mind, willpower, hard
work, and desire the whole world is open to you. Nobody else can
stop you from doing or being what you want, unless you let them.
