As the daughter of two professional educators, I have always been
driven to excel in my academic life. I grew up in the Virgin Islands,
where in high school, I first realized my preference for the sciences.
Then, at the tender age of sixteen, I graduated and was awarded
a full scholarship to attend college in Columbia, South Carolina.
There, I majored in biology, minored in chemistry, and played first
trumpet in the college's marching band and concert band. I volunteered
as an after-school counselor at the Boys and Girls' Club, and was
a member of the on-campus pre-health club, EIAC Cross Country team,
Beta Kappa Chi National Scientific Honor Society, and was crowned
Miss Homecoming 2000-2001.
Within my major field, biology, there are so many career possibilities.
Luckily, I have had the opportunity to engage in internships from
opposing aspects. One aspect includes the research on marine bacteria
which I have done at the University of South Carolina. Another aspect
includes a pre-medical summer program at Vanderbilt University.
During the latter program, I shadowed prominent obstetricians and
gynecologists at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and was
allowed hands-on experience in actual baby deliveries.
Working in a hospital that summer provided encouragement for future
years. I am currently certified in medical billing, and am aptly
preparing for a lucrative career in Health Care Administration.
My ultimate career goal is to eventually become the Chief Executive
Officer of a large community health care facility, not for prestige
or any ego-driven motives, but because I aspire to contribute on
a large scale and be a global inspiration.
