Currently, I am a Process Engineer at Air Products and Chemicals,
Inc. in Allentown, Pennsylvania. I work in the Air Separation Group,
where I design equipment and do plant simulations for new projects
or retrofits on existing plants. I started in this position in November,
1999. From June of 1997 through November 1999, I was part of Air
Product's Career Development Program (CDP). This is a rotational
program where a new engineer will take three different assignments
in an approximately three-year period. My first assignment on the
program was in our Corporate Engineering department, where I worked
on HAZOPs and did fault tree analysis for existing plants or equipment
(fault trees are logic diagrams which analyze quantitatively the
safety of process). My second CDP assignment was in the Air Separation
group working as a Process Engineer (I enjoyed this position, which
is why I returned to it after my third assignment for a "permanent"
position). My third assignment was less technical than the other
two. I worked in the Venture Development group on the chemical side
of the business. Here I worked preparing predevelopment estimates
for new ventures.
I graduated from Lafayette College in Easton, PA. with a BS
in Chemical Engineering in May of 1997.
The most exciting part of my career is to be able to design
a piece of equipment (or numerous pieces of equipment for a plant)
and then go into the field and actually see the equipment I designed
and watch it operate. It is exciting to be able to use what I learned
in college in a real-life setting.
