  1. Current Career Position:
My current position is Software Engineer. I work as a consultant for Acxiom Corporation and my current client is Information Resources, Inc. I really love my job right now because I work with really nice people and the environment is more fast-paced than my previous job. I feel I have value here and that people listen to my opinions. I currently am programming using Perl, but will also be programming in C++ while at this client. I am managing some programmers, I am a main contact for questions for Quality Assurance, Source Code Management and status.

Previous to Acxiom, I worked at Lucent Technologies for 16 years. I was laid off because of the recent trend to transfer work to India. After looking for a job for 7 months, I worked at Motorola for one year, as a contractor. When my contract was up, I quickly found another job with Acxiom. Here, my leadership abilities as well as my technical skills are appreciated.

  2. Education:
My education is a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science. I have a minor in Math. This degree is from Southern Illinois University.

  3. Most Exciting Part of My Career:
In 2001, I spent 5 weeks in Paris, France, helping the engineers there meet their deadline. Before I flew to France, I researched the area they needed help by reading documents and talking to other engineers that work in that area. I made a design of the software and made a plan of how I would proceed once I got to France. Once, there, I gave a small talk about my design to 4 or 5 engineers in France. Then, developed the code and tested it. I worked with the French engineers to get their software to work with mine. We completed the job in 5 weeks.

  4. Toughest Barriers to Overcome to Arrive at My Current Position:
Taking risks has been the toughest barriers for me. I am a perfectionist. The thought of failing scares me and sometimes I prevent myself from taking risks because I am not willing to fail. I have had to allow myself to fail in order to succeed. I needed to psych myself up to take risks and take on assignments that I don't fully understand yet. I have had to tell myself that I will do my best and that it will be okay to fail. I know that I will probably succeed, but even if I fail, I will still learn and it will be a stepping stone to success.

I also find that men from different cultures are still learning how to deal with women in the work environment. Many men from other countries have been brought up thinking that women were not as important as men. In this day, we have many people from all over the world working with us. So, I have to learn how to deal with men who do not want to respect my work. This has been very difficult and is ongoing.
