My name is Lisa Fitzgerald and I have been an Oracle Database Administrator
at Walgreen Co. in Deerfield, IL for the last 7 years. In '93 I
received a BS in Computer Science from Marquette University in Milwaukee,
and in '97 I received a MS in Computing and Information Science
from Roosevelt University in Chicago, IL. I first became interested
in computers in 5th grade, when my elementary school purchased two
Apple Computers for student use. By 8th grade I had my own home
computer, an Apple IIc, which I still have packed away at home.
The most exciting parting of my career is that I never know for
sure what I will be doing each day. I have certain planned tasks,
but new issues and problems come up everyday. Getting to my current
position was not easy. In '93, when I first graduated, the current
technology boom had not started yet. Very few people were being
hired without already having several years of experience. I kept
searching and took a position as a Tape Librarian at Walgreen Co.
I knew I was over quallified for this position, but it gave me a
foot in the door at a strong, mature company. In less than a year,
due to my current and pending degrees, I was asked to move over
to the database department, where I have been since.
