I am a Civil Engineer with the Port Authority of Allegheny County
in Pittsburgh, PA. We are the regional transit authority, providing
both bus and rail transportation in the area. My areas of responsibility
involve transportation engineering including pavement and architectural
projects. Some recent projects I've been involved with are a busway
pavement rehabilitation - project engineer during design, construction,
contract closeout, and as-builts and a 160 vehicle Park and Ride
facility - project inspector / resident construction manager duties
during construction and contract closeout.
I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Civil and Environmental
Engineering in 1978 from Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York.
After working at a consulting engineering firm doing structural
design for the power industry for 4 years, I decided to stay home
and raise my family. I was a full time mother to my three children
/ homemaker for 13 years. During that time I volunteered with a
non-profit organization that rehabilitated and built new housing
for the needy.
When my youngest daughter started 4th grade I returned to work as
an Engineer. I worked for another consulting engineering firm in
their airports division as part of the team assigned to the Pittsburgh
International Airport general services contract. We designed runways
and taxiways, provided environmental testing during their deicing
season and provided any other engineering services the airport required.
After that, I joined the transit agency I am now associated with.
I recently became a Professional Engineer, which is a goal that
I have aspired to for many years.
