While growing up in a small, rural community in Middle Tennessee I never dreamed that I would one day manage information technology projects for physicians and hospitals throughout the United States including Hawaii. When I was a child I spent my summers working in the fields on our family farm. As a teenager, local farmers passing by would often point at me while I drove our tractor pulling the hay baling equipment. At that time it was unusual to see "girls" with that ability and responsibility.

Going to college was never an option as my father made it a requirement. He wanted his daughters to experience a career beyond becoming a waitress or secretary. He understood that education provides women with the freedom to choose from many opportunities. I took all of the math and science classes offered at my high school and graduated near the top of my class. While in college, I worked lots of odd jobs to help pay for my tuition and In four years I earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN.

Initially I took a traditional route for a young woman in college - a degree in Education. However when I graduated, teaching jobs were difficult to find. I then decided to look at the business sector where I was quickly introduced to the world of information technology. Fortunately, many of the skills needed for a career in Education have become invaluable in my IT career. Skills in communication, presentation, organization, research, planning, documentation - I use them everyday to steer hospital executives in the right direction while implementing their healthcare systems. Since graduation, not only have I continued my education in areas specific to Information Technology, but have led classes and seminars with audiences full of physicians and IT executives.

For many years I worked for Alcon Laboratories implementing practice management systems for surgeons and ambulatory surgical centers throughout the United States and Hawaii. I have been with Siemens Health Services for the past seven years working with hospitals to implement healthcare systems, which often become multi-million dollar projects. My work is very interesting and rewarding as no two projects are ever the same and I am able to build strong relationships with fellow employees and customers from all parts of the world.

After living in Kentucky, Missouri and California for many years I now live back on the family farm in Middle Tennessee with my husband and three dogs. My current position provides me with the flexibility of letting me live where I choose while continuing to travel.
