Terri Rinella
Technology Consultant
Accenture Technology Labs
Chicago, IL

As a consultant and project manager in the Accenture Technology Labs group, I have been involved in a number of internal and client projects to design, build, test, and implement emerging technologies. Over the years, I've focused on the Technology Lab's Silent Commerce vision: To make everyday objects intelligent and interactive by integrating RFID, sensors, actuators, and display technology with business applications to create valuable solutions for our clients. I've worked with my teams to develop prototypes and deploy systems for package delivery companies, retail stores, distribution companies, insurance companies, banks, biomedical device manufacturers and the government. We have integrated technologies such as wearable computers, heads-up-displays, voice recognition, RFID infrastructures, and other wireless devices.

My interest in engineering and technology started in 4th grade. I remember reading about a futuristic "flying train" in Scholastic Magazine at school. I so intrigued by the concept that I wrote to the magazine and inquired about the invention. In the response, they encouraged me to pursue a career in a technology field. In addition, my parents have always encouraged me towards a career in science. Over the years, my mom (a Chemistry Major) would tell stories about the great job she had at a chemical company after college and how she was the only woman in the lab.

At the state science fair in 8th grade, I entered an Engineering project and really enjoyed the components of the project. After that, I decided I wanted to study engineering. Although I was interested in an engineering degree, I also wanted to learn about the business world, like my dad, and utilize my people skills. When I visited colleges, I discovered that Miami University (Ohio) had the ideal major for me. I graduated from Miami University with a B.S. in Manufacturing Engineering Management. Upon graduation in 2000, I joined the Accenture Technology Labs group.
