Currently I am a structural engineer designing buildings for Mason
& Hanger Group, Inc., in Lexington, KY. Previously I worked
for Haworth, Meyer, & Boleyn, Inc., of Frankfort, KY assisting
in the design of highway structures, and as a student I worked as
a construction inspector for the West Virginia Department of Transportation
Division of Highways during a summer co-op. I received both a Bachelor
of Science in Civil Engineering and a Master of Science in Civil
Engineering from West Virginia University.
Every project that I work on is different. I work with many different
professionals (mechanical engineers, architects, and interior designers)
and we have to coordinate what we do to produce the final design.
It is a challenge and I like that.
The toughest barriers to overcome to get to where I am today have
been both internal and external. The transition from school to work
was eye opening and challenging. Realizing that I had control of
where I would go and what I would do was empowering. One can be
in an unfavorable situation for growth and development, but there
are always choices that can be made to improve upon the situation.
You can create your own destiny by the knowledge that you possess
and arm yourself with and by the relationships that you develop.
Occasionally you will encounter someone who is not a supporter of
you and your endeavors but you must remain true to yourself and
what it is that you want to accomplish in your life.
