Vanessa Bui is the Vice President of External Affairs of the Vietnamese
Culture and Science Association (VCSA). In this capacity, she is
charged with coordinating many of the marketing and public relation
activities within the non-profit organization to increase opportunities
for young Vietnamese-American professionals.
Since her involvement with VCSA in 1999, she has played an instrumental
role in initiating, planning, marketing, and delivering many successful
educational programs such as the Youth Excellence Recognition Program
for Vietnamese-American high school students and the National Youth
Leadership Development Camp "Len Duong." These two major
milestones became VCSA's annual events since 1997 and 1998, respectively.
In addition, she has organized numerous Drug Awareness seminars
to increase health and educational awareness and reduce substance
abuse and gang violence within the Vietnamese-American community.
With a commitment to public service, Ms. Bui is also a member of
the VCSA Fundraising Team. The team dedicates its effort to find
sponsorship to support many of the organization's continuous projects
such as the Vietnamese language and literature classes, tutorial
sessions, computer classes, and health seminars. She is also a member
of Sunflower Mission, a non-profit organization that helps to improve
the people of Vietnam mainly through education assistance. Another
area that she actively supports is medical missions that provide
reconstruction surgery services to children in medically underserved
countries like Vietnam, Romania, Peru, and the Philippines.
Ms. Bui received her education at University of Houston-College
of Pharmacy and graduated in December 1995 with a B.S. in Pharmacy.
She is currently working as a research pharmacist at Texas Children's
Hospital. Her functions there are to coordinate and monitor investigational
drug treatment studies with the physicians, study personnel, study
monitor, and the dispensing pharmacy. She maintains study agents
accountability, including daily and monthly audits. Her responsibility
is also to ensure appropriate storage of used and unused study agents/supplies
in accordance with regulatory and legal requirements.
Ms. Bui came to the Unites States in 1975, at the age of 4, as
a refugee from Vietnam. She currently resides in Houston, TX with
her husband and son.
