I'm an artist and graphic designer. After being a professor of
art for 3 years, I moved to
Seattle and switched careers to graphic design, and began working
as a print
graphic designer at Microsoft. I soon moved into user interface
design and
eventually became Director of Visual Interface Design at Microsoft,
working
on the design of Word, Excel, Visual Basic, and Windows 3.0, 3.1
and Windows
95. I wrote a book called Visual Interface Design for Windows, published
in
1996 by John Wiley & Sons. I learned about high tech and user
interface
design by reading books, attending conferences, & taking classes,
as well as
through tons of job experience.
Now I own a small interface design consulting company, and work
with a wide
variety of clients, helping them make better looking and more usable
software products.
