I graduated from Purdue University in 1988 with a double major
in Computer Science and Mathematics, minor in Economics. I started
with AT&T (now Lucent) as part of the One Year On Campus program
and received my Masters in Computer Science from Stanford University.
When I returned from school, I worked in the Customer Support are
for switching solutions. I supported a variety of markets but primarily
Taiwan. Over the course of the next 6 years, I traveled to Taiwan
at least a dozen times. This was an excellent experience.
I then changed careers and moved into Project Management for GSM
wireless. This business grew from one person to an entire group
of 8 people over 2 ½ years. I have had the opportunity to
travel to England several times, the Netherlands, Germany and Thailand.
I was promoted to Technical Manager of a project management group
for the Asia/Pacific and China regions. Within the project management
department, I've also managed groups focused on project estimation
& scheduling and resource management (my current assignment).
What I've enjoyed most about my career is having the opportunity
to change existing processes/procedures to be more streamlined and
cost effective. I need to have a "mission" to improve
things so I can feel I'm making a difference in my company. The
biggest obstacle is apathy from others - when they are satisfied
with the status quo and are unwilling to change. The industry and
the world are moving so fast that we need to constantly strive to
keep up.
